Anna Sougy

biography

Born in 1997, Anna Sougy is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Paris.
Her practice revolves around drawing, video, writing and textiles, all of which are often deployed in installations that serve as both backdrops and performance stages.
Her work focuses on questions of narrative, attempted dialogue and the dysfunctions of language. Summoning a repertoire of popular imaginaries (tale and legend, dream and nightmare), Anna Sougy attempts to weave open-ended narratives and question addresses, like confidences to the unknown.
Using multiple voices and a poetic, metaphorical language, the artist stages and embodies the multiple characters in her projects.
Her creations then appear as dreamlike images in which fiction and reality meet through self-writing, the memory of time and space, communities, and doing together in relation to others.

Since 2019, she has been collaborating with artist and music producer, Léa Tissot - Laura. Together, they have made several videos dealing with questions of identity, the body, and community through surrealism and absurd. These videos have been exhibited in France and abroad, notably at Jedna Dva Tri Gallery and Karpuchina Gallery in Prague, CLAPTRAP in Antwerp and ALte Turnhalle in Lichtensteig.

She graduated from the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg (option art Hors-Format) and from the KASK & Conservatorium / School of Arts in Gent (option New Media). Anna Sougy exhibits her work and takes part in numerous festivals and exhibitions in Belgium, France, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.

Née en 1997, Anna Sougy est une artiste pluridisciplinaire vivant et travaillant a Paris.
Sa pratique s’articule autour du dessin, de la vidéo, de l’écriture et du textile, le tout souvent déployé dans des installations servant aussi bien de décor que de scène où performer.
Son travail se concentre sur les questions de récit, la tentative de dialogue, et les dysfonctionnements du langage. En convoquant un répertoire d’imaginaires populaire (conte et légende, rêve et cauchemar), Anna Sougy tente de tisser des narrations ouvertes et de questionner les adresses, comme des confidences à l’inconnu.
En utilisant des voix plurielles et un langage poétique et métaphorique, l’artiste se met en scène et incarne tour à tour les multiples personnages de ses projets.
Ses créations apparaissent alors comme des images oniriques dans lesquelles la fiction et la réalité se rencontrent par le biais de l’écriture de soi, de la mémoire du temps et des espaces, des communautés, et du faire ensemble en relation avec l’autre.

Depuis 2019, elle collabore avec l’artiste et productrice musicale, Léa Tissot - Laura. Ensemble, elles ont réalisé plusieurs vidéos traitant des questions d’identité, de corps, et de communauté au moyen du surréalisme et de l’absurde. Ces vidéos ont été exposées en France et à l’étranger, notamment à la Jedna Dva Tri Gallery et la Karpuchina Gallery à Prague, la CLAPTRAP à Anvers ou encore au à ALte Turnhalle à Lichtensteig.
